This weekend was halloween party weekend! The flat was decorated with cob webs and pumpkins and orange and black stuff everywhere...even the boys' beer pong table was themed up!! Everyone brought treats and put so much effort in to their costumes.. it was a fun night!

I always find it more fun to work out if you like your kit and although Stella items are quite pricey they are just so darn snazzy that they are well worth it!!

the run pants are £ 60 and the top is £50 and look quite cute paired with Nike Air Max Trainer £55 and of course accessorised with a black pave diamond ring... doesn't everyone wear diamonds to the gym?!!!!

Botton Hole Tags

So the wonderful Planet Flowers made these gorgeous button holes for a beautiful autumnal wedding recently. In true Planet style they weren't just shoved in a box to be dished out on the morning of the wedding... instead they were presented, pinned on cork backers and each had a little tag (made by moi) to say who's was who's. I love getting little jobs like this, they may be really tiny but I think beautiful weddings are all about the lovely little details. These button holes are super pretty with all different coloured berries... just delicious!

Back in May I put together a Candy buffet for a darling couple Melissa and Blair. They live over in San Diego although Blair is originally from bonnie Scotland and after visiting with Blair, Melissa chose to have their wedding in Edinburgh.
The candy table brief was circus, green, black and gold and I had pretty much free reign.
Well.... the wedding was absolutely gorgeous and so gorgeous in fact that it made it on to a US Wedding Blog. Well, i say a US Wedding blog... more the THE US wedding Blog. Style Me Pretty is a fantastic resource for brides and, as well as having sections dedicated to inspiring every element of your wedding they feature real weddings. I am so thrilled that my wee candy creation was featured in the post, I could pop!!

The photos were taken by Glasgow Photographer Candy Snaps and I think Caroline did a fantastic job of capturing the day. The flowers were by Planet Flowers... feels like they do every wedding!! Gemma put together a gorgeous green, cream and gold look and as usual the flowers were to die for.
I think little details were the flavor of the day and thats what made it extra special. All the planning and attention to detail paid off.
I loved working with Melissa all the way over in Cali. I was so happy that i got to see her while i set up on her big day, she was just gorgeous!

I was scouting for a dress for my mum to wear to a wedding last week and nipped into Hobbs for a wee look. Well, i fell in love! They have the best pink and orange coloured clothing in just now. The pink is insane.. its like a magenta coloured highlighter pen colour and the orange is like a burnt orange highlighter, I die. Since then I haven't been able to stop thinking about them, so I have decided to put a board together in their honor!!

Major blog post crush...
my amazing industry friend Gemma of Planet Flowers got married at the end of October last year in utterly gorgeous, detail filled surroundings! She and Hubby Chris chose Hopetoun House South Queensferry as their venue and it was just beautiful.
Gemma is one if the most talented people I know and true to form she effortlessly worked her magic, and produced the most amazing flowers and decor for her big day.
I was lucky enough to help out and made her invites and little paper details for her reception. I cant say enough how beautiful the whole day looked and thanks to the brilliant BlueSky Photography team every little detail was captured in total perfection.
This wedding was featured on one of my favorite blogs, Rock My Wedding... which was so exciting!! it was fun to finally know one of the brides in the pictures that I usually just swoon over!! (also quite exciting to get a wee mention!!) check out the whole feature on the rock my wedding blog

Ok, so my friend wanted to read this book and have a buddy to chat about it to so I agreed to read it with her. It's not that I am trying to justify why I read it ..more that I'd not usually read this kind of book or talk about it if I did. It's also not because i think there is anything wrong with self help'ish books. It's because relationship advice books are somewhat of a sore point for me.

My first experience was rather negative and a kind of "baptism of fire"! My dear, dear sister thought that it would be a great "help'" ( a mere 2 days after an exceedingly traumatic and devastating breakup) to mail me 2 books (there was no warning what so ever of their purchase or arrival). Both books were quite mild on the "relationship analysis spectrum" but WOW... it was like taking a bullet when I opened the Amazon parcel.

Having just completed a marathon crying fest.. pulling off the brown cardboard to be greeted with "He's Just Not That Into You" and "Its Called a Break- Up Because its Broken" was not what I needed and sent me off to find the nearest dark corner with my duvet. Naturally I carb loaded and set off on yet another crying marathon!!

Great news though....this book was a delight to read, not at all painful, and I actually enjoyed it.

Ok so enough blabbing and here is the title... "Five Love Languages" by Gary Chapman

Yes, it is probably the cheesiest cover for this kind of book but luckily I was spared having to hold/look at it as I bought it on my Kindle App. This was genius of me, if i don't say so myself!

The 5 Love Languages was a New York Times best seller and I can totally see why. It's so simple, mainly as it's just common sense (sometimes it helps to be reminded). More importantly this book makes you think a wee bit, you can't help but apply the theories to yourself and as a result... you can't help but think a little less selfishly. Selflessness in a relationship (when practiced from both sides) is compromise and that's what I reckon happy, lasting relationships are based on.

Sadly it's pretty much safe to say that most men would die laughing/sigh and roll ther eyes or plain just walk out the room if their wife/partner presented them with this book... but I think it would dramatically help them out. It's basically a manual for men/women on what each other want.

I can just picture the faces of any of my ex boyfriends if i had landed this book in their lap... it would most certainly be greeted with a "for god's sake, where did you hear about this.. Glamour Magazine??" But, If they took the time to read it they might understand why some of us women go mental when they forget to pick up a vital item for us at the shops/why we find their obsession with sport or watching it infuriating or why we go in huffs or moods "for no reason"!!

Gary Chapman claims there are 5 languages of love and we rarely meet, let alone date a partner who speaks the same combination of these languages as we do.. hence why we bang heads after the delusional "honeymoon period" comes to an end. He breaks down the languages and makes a successful relationship seem like a piece of cake!!

Don't fear I am not insane, nor am I a delusional romantic! I am well aware that the ever changing circumstances of everyday life (REALITY) mean that this book's preachings are not quite achievable for everyone all the time but I think the basic idea is a great one.

I'd love this book to fall out the sky and whack couples on the head the day after they get engaged... and that it be compulsory reading for them!!

I never thought I'd see the day where I wrote a blog post on a relationship advice book but I guess here it is! Even if you are a single gal like me you can appreciate this book and it makes for good rainy day reading.. get thee to amazon and order it!!

obsessions of late

This winter I have been obsessed with a few things.. firstly, my latest clothing find... SuperDry Lumberjack hoodies. They are simply the best clothing item ever. I have lived in one most days since i discovered them. I have a bunch of different colours and i totally love them. They work well as a jacket or as a layer and I really don't know what I used to wear before I came across them!!

Secondly, Marks and Spencer's Super Green Soup. Its simply amazing, I could eat it everyday!

Third on the list is Hurts album Happiness. I love the tracks "Stay" and "Blood, Tears and Gold" I can usually be found blaring this in my ear holes while walking the dog!

I have also been listen to Pantha Du Prince's Saturn Strobe track a lot too (while working) its amazing background music as i hate working in silence.

I got a bit doodle'tastic last night while watching T.V... lucky i have an excuse for it (research, possible designs or the like?!) As my dear friend pointed out I am a single girl and, if any potential suitors saw this they would probably run for the hills!! She is totally right as I have had funny looks from guys when they spy the selection of bridal magazines spread on my coffee table.

Maybe its time to keep work and all things related tucked away in my office!

I was meeting a friend in town a few months ago and was a bit early so went into a card shop and, to my delight stumbled upon her range of cards. I stood like a lunatic chuckling to myself at all of them then bought every one from the range!

V-Day

So Valentines Day is approaching and, given the the speed at which January has flown by it will be here super fast. As a self confessed hopeless romantic, I love the idea of Valentines but the reality can be quite a disappointment. I love all the stationery produced and seeing the roses at the florists etc but the pressure on everyone to show how much they care in such a forced fashion is a wee tad awkward. Men and women in relationships should be telling there significant other how wonderful they are more than once a year! End of rant.

To focus on what I said before.. I love the stationery,flowers and general "lovey dovey" bumf that pops up in February so here is a tiny wee selection of things that I have seen so far.

Weekends Work

So this weekend Knotty did a sweetie table set up in the chilly but gorgeous Glencorse House Venue.

The marquee we were setting up in wasn't heated yet so we had ice block fingers trying to lay everything out!

Purple confetti petals

Purple was the colour of this wedding and it worked really well. Everything came together really nicely. The flowers by the amazing Planet Flowers were gorgeous (as usual) and the vintage 'esq look was so pretty.

More pictures will follow ....but here is what we snapped on the morning (with a very uncooperative camera - no amount of fiddling with the WB would make the camera photograph the table in a nice light)

Thankfully KlaKlak photography were there early so they snapped our set up as well!

Banana cupcakes

So yesterday, as is happening more and more often, I realized i had bought but not eaten a bunch of bananas in time. Sadly they were looking so pathetic and brown that there was only one option.... BAKE!
I feel terrible throwing out food so I got out my most favorite... and quick...and easy... and amazingly delicious Banana Bread recipe. http://www.marthastewart .com/recipe/banana-bread
I love Martha Stewart for having shared this loaf recipe but i decided to try it out as muffins this time.
So... from the bread recipe 12 medium muffins were born!! My friend and I are currently even, having eaten 3 each.. yes... they are that good!!

They are now pride of place in my new cake stand, but i don't think they'll last too long. They don't look too delicious but don't judge a book by its cover!! I fully recommend this recipe, its brilliant!

Candy Table in situ!!

So this morning Knotty went to the gorgeous Mansfield Traquair to set up the Candy table for todays wedding.
Gemma and the girls from Planet Flowers were busy setting up the tables and various displays and we all had a good giggle while being busy bees! The bride had requested a display for the candy table and so there was a gorgeous white tree like piece for Knotty to hang mini bunting from!
So without any further chat.. here are the pics.

Candy Table prep!

This coming weekend Knotty is putting together a Candy Table for a wedding reception in the awesome Mansfield Traquair.
The bride has ordered all pink sweets so the table decor is in keeping with this colour scheme. Some of the sweets are blasts from the past.. there are candy necklaces, popping candy, sour pops, jazzles, cherry lips... and the list goes on!
One cute feature is the Fondant Fancy tower. The Groom originally wanted the wedding cake to be a huge Fondant Fancy but the Bride had other ideas (a gorgeous 5 tier cake with flowers in between the layers that match her whole theme) and offered him the compromise of a tower on the Candy table! This has meant buying lots of packets as, you only get 3 pink ones on a pack of 8! Mr Kipling will we delighted with Wednesday's sales!

Last night we got our gloves and hair nets on and separated the fondants in the packs to make set up on Saturday a little more easy!!

Sophie's Birthday

Another table top display.. this time for a birthday party.
It was an afternoon tea/cocktail party held in Ricks Bar in Edinburgh for a girl called Sophie!!
Sophie's favorite colours are lilac and really any pastel colours so Knotty painted twigs lilac and made pale pink and blue decor to hang from the center piece. The place settings were medallions and the menus matched the general theme. Cupcakes were made in corresponding colours and the cupcake stand topper was made to look like a present!

A friend of Knotty's birthday was on Saturday and as she is an avid "twilight saga" fan Knotty decided to flex their creative side and throw together some themed table decor. Place settings, cupcake flags, rose petals and a jazzed up cupcake stand all helped Edward'ize the evening!!

Beautiful Miami Wedding

Last month i had the most amazing trip to Miami to see two very good friends tie the knot!
After a few years dating they were engaged on the 17th January 2009 and chose to get married a year later .. almost exactly to the day.
The base for the entire weekend was the Fountainbleau Hotel in Miami Beach, a huge hotel with tones of style (it had a billion dollar refurb completed in 2008) It features modern luxury at its best.
The rehersal party was held in the hotel at its fun Blade bar on the Friday night before. The Wedding itself was held on South beach on the sand under a gorgeous gazebo covered in orchids.
The wedding ball was in the evening at the exclusive Indian Creek Country Club. I think the pictures speak for themselves so here is a little picture story of the weekend.

we arrived in our rooms to Gift Box containing a selection of gifts from the couples favorite retailers, there was also a little itinerary for the weekend.

I love looking at my favorite photographers recent work when i get a little bored, it really cheers me up. This week Amanda of Celebrate Life Photography's engagement shoot caught my eye...this photo especially did. It is just such a gorgeous shot and its hard to believe that its real life and two people that are actually in love and engaged! T.V, advertising and the like almost numbs you to these shots as you see them quite often but reading the little couples story and knowing how in love they really are make this photo so lovely.

Corsages

My parents were at a wedding this weekend past and, as always, my wee dad had on a corsage made by my mum! She picks heather from the garden and wraps it with ribbon. They always look so professional.

I had a wee gander on Etsy and found this most gorgeous corsage by buffalump. I love the buttons and feathers. Very cute.

Office Clear Out

This morning was pretty busy for me running a bunch of errands about town. On reflection i think i was just trying to put off my clear out!! I have been putting left over paper and stock in any old drawer for a few months and it has got to the stage where i can't find anything! Hence the clear out..
I unearthed these ancient cards i made in amongst the paper. They were cards I made about 3 years ago and never really did anything with.. still am rather fond of them though!

Among the stationery items i made for the November 7th wedding were escort cards with printed envelopes.
I ordered waaaaaaaay too many envelopes.
I have been sitting looking at the leftovers pile wanting to do something with them other than wait till another brides orders the same item. So I had a wee think earlier and came up with this Save the Date card..though I guess the idea could be applied to most invites, not just Save the Dates. Guess what i'll be doing this evening....

last night i decided to get out my Gran's old sewing machine. it is an awesome old Singer and although advertised as "portable" it weighs a ton! I got my sewing machine "drivers license" from school when i was about 10 but haven't done that much sewing since (other than the odd repair) Threading it up was a challenge but i guess things you are taught when you are little tend to stick in the brain!

New Year November Resolutions!

After the most stressful year of my life i am finally able to feel the "new" part of this year! Until this month i have felt like i've been living in an extended 2008... well not anymore. I am now hoping to end this "new" year on a high and productive note with the help of a few resolutions! Out with the old (everything) and in with the new!

This afternoon i had a great session with my new PT Warwick Preston. He's great and i totally trust him with my fitness and goals. If any brides to be are reading and considering a trainer to help them look their best for their big day i would fully recommend him. well we're well into November and i haven't blogged a day in this month!
i've been busy busy gettin another order out. It was for a wedding at Cameron House Hotel on Loch Lomond side.

I drove through to the venue with the stationery as I was heading west anyways and i am so glad i did! When i arrived on friday evening and the moon was shining right across the loch... it was gorgeous (if a little creepy)!
The wedding was "crown" themed as the couple's surname is Crown. The little vintage illustration i found of a crown featured on all elements of the stationery from Thank you cards to escort cards and menus.

The bride has family based in the states so had a huge rehearsal dinner to introduce everyone. It was held in the Boat House and i did the stationery for this too. the invites were fun and incorporated a boat theme... they have a life preserver on the trace wrap!

Bathroom artwork

i can proudly say that my bathroom renovations are done. phew.
i chose a pale green/blue and grey colour scheme green/blue tile that i adore, slate floor and and i love it.. so pleased with it.
now is the challenge of creating some artwork for the one huge blank wall..? so far this is all i could fashion as i wasn't feeling mighty creative last night! think it will suffice for just now but i need to fill the 7 other frames i have...eeeek!

I had a great weekend after dropping off the stationery for Saturday's wedding. I was so taken back by the decoration of the venue and the sheer detail that the bride had gone to to make her venue look like a fairy tale! The florist was simply amazing and the flowers were out of this world. i have posted some photos on my facebook page (you can get to it by clicking on the link on the left of my blog)

For one of the jobs i have on, the Bride and Groom are having a sweetie table with treats for their guests to nibble on after the meal. One of the items on the table are cupcakes and for the cupcakes i am making little flags!
Here are some of the designs i am putting together at the moment...
I can't wait to see all the stationery in place as this has been such fun job to work on. The bride is really open to fun ideas and i have had a really great time working with her.

Weird wedding

this has to be the most unusual wedding i've read about in a while!
i saw footage of them floating around in bridal outfits this morning at the gym and just had to google it when i got in!

"Noah Fulmore and Erin Finnegan span around as they became the first couple to tie the knot while weightless.... They were married on a special flight that simulates the zero gravity experienced by astronauts on space walks. "
The rings they exchanged are made from precious metal fragments of a meteorite that crashed to Earth in Namibia 30,000 years ago... how cute!

It seems that all the gorgeous photos of weddings i purge on each day come from the US of A. Not anymore! I found, courtesy of one of my favorite sites (Oncewed) Lillian and Leonard. They are based in Glasgow and cover the whole of the U.K. There photography is great and i have so enjoyed finding out about them. They are going on my list of wonderful wedding finds. Here are a few of there ace snaps. I especially love the grumpy greyhound!

Everyone must use them as photographers (that's an order) their attention to detail is fantastic.
What a great wedding to snap as well! i absolutely love that the sun shone for this couple as living in Scotland, i am all too familiar with unpredictable weather we have!!
